MOURNE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH – INFORMATION SHEET
At the moment we are facing unprecedented events in our nation since the Second World War. It is a time where national repentance and prayer is most urgent.
As a community of God’s people we want to support one another through prayer and in practical ways, this is the way of Christ. It is also our duty to follow the law of the land and be model citizens for in such we honour Christ.
In response to the likelihood of severe disruption to normal life, including church life , I would like to highlight what our provisional response will be in various scenarios.
STAGE 1 – NO CHANGES
From this Sunday, 15th March 2020, the following precautions will be taken in church services.
The shaking of hands at the door by minister and stewards will be temporarily suspended.
Services may be shorter.
Offering plates will not be passed along the pews. You will be able to place your contribution on a plate that stewards will be holding on the way out of church.
Hymn book covers will be wiped with antiseptic wipes by those on duty on the door before each service. Door handles will also be wiped. Antiseptic wipes are available for those who may wish one.
Towels in washrooms will gradually be replaced with blow dryers.
These are minor precautions but are made to make our environment a safer one to worship in.
SCENARIO 2 – LIMITED PUBLIC GATHERINGS
If the number allowed to meet was under 800 this would have an impact on our morning worship. To enable people to still come to worship God, which is the desire of every believer, we may make the following changes.
Children will not be at the main church gathering but will gather for Children’s Church in the Church Hall at 11.30am. There will be a shorter service of worship at the 11.30am service with a normal evening service.
For those who are unable to attend church because they are ill or feel vulnerable in crowds we hope either to livestream the service on the internet at 11.30am or make it available online after the service from 2.00pm. The website is www.mournepc.org or facebook – Mourne Presbyterian Church.
SCENARIO 3 – ALL PUBLIC GATHERINGS BANNED (worst case)
In this case it will be illegal, by law, to hold church services in a public meeting. There will, of course, be no limit on worshipping God in your own home. To facilitate this there will be an act of worship including prayer and the ministry of God’s word together with church announcements online at mournepc.org. I will lead this DV. This will be available online from 11.00am each Sunday morning. You may like to tune in at 11.30am to take part in this though you may have to wait and try later if the system was busy.
All other church meetings in this case would also be closed including youth organisations, parents evenings etc.
In the sad event of a death and funeral we are awaiting further information and instruction. In the worst case scenario it may mean a private family burial followed by a Memorial Service, if the family desire, when the crisis is over.
Weddings. Please contact Rev Bingham for up to date information.
Pastoral needs. As minister, along with the elders, we will make ourselves available to help anyone who is ill, anxious or in need. If you wish to contact me you can do so in the following ways.
Mobile Phone – 07802668622 – also on Whats App and Facetime
Landline – 41762264
While we would want to meet with people face to face it may not always be possible as the law will require people with the virus to be in total isolation. None of us want to pass this on to other people.
Throughout this period information will be updated regularly on our website – www.mournepc.org and facebook page.
PLEASE NOTE WE ARE STILL CURRENTLY OPERATING UNDER STAGE 1 AND WILL DO SO UNTIL WE ARE LEGALLY OBLIGED TO MOVE TO THE OTHERS.
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
Yours in Christ,
